Animals in the wild are doing one of three things...sleeping,hunting and occasionally playing....this guy was on the hunt...looking for mice when he spotted me and retreated. the click of the shutter is enough to make them bolt which makes it a challenge to get really closeup shots.

Spring in Saskatchewan is a great time to photograph birds. There are many species around and many are so brightly coloured during their mating period. This Oriole male is no exception and is bright in the spring. They love oranges and grape jelly and this one is the first I have been able to get close to. The photobombing bee was just plain luck...

A small herd of Antelope were crossing the highway near the North Saskatchewan river. Having lived in this area all my life Ive never seen them this far north....they generally like the wide open spaces of grassland of central Saskatchewan.. this bunch obviously had taken a little holiday away from the others,

Hermit Thrush

I love the song of the Hermit Thrush's song but they are very illusive, preferring to stay in the cover of brush and on the ground. This one happened to come along and hop around while I took its picture....

American Goldfinch

The songbirds are back rom their winter retreat and are brightly coloured during their mating time. This male goldfinch sports bright yellow feathers and a very orange beak.

White throated Sparrow

A turkey Vulture soars in the thermals of the afternoon.

On the Move

Beavers live to their environment meaning when they increase in numbers too great for the pond to support, the young are kicked out and go to find another body of water for themselves. This young beaver seems to be on his way to find and build another home. With water levels decreasing and sloughs disappearing the past few years means the beaver are heading to larger bodies of water…Lakes and rivers.
