  • TeePee

    TeePee

A place where native Cree sweat ceremonies are held during the summer is quiet. The skins which normally cover the poles are put away for the winter.

  • Dawn on the farm

    Dawn on the farm

A grain auger sits quietly in front of the workshop which is succumbing to the elements. The light of the dawn starts to encapsulate the scene on this old prairie homestead.

  • The Grainary

    The Grainary

While this building ended its life as a granary (small opening bottom left is for the grain auger to sit), it may have been a chicken coop at its beginnings. What is intriguing is the variations of shades in the wood, some coloured and some grey (no PP colour changes).

  • The Window

    The Window

This kitchen window missing a pane of glass, the other intact showing the reflection of the nearby trees. Better views of the chinking which was used in construction.

  • Logs

    Logs

A close upview of logs and the chinking in a building which is over a hundred years old....the chinking at the time was a combination of straw which was abundant and mud.

  • Log Garage

    Log Garage

This log building was likely built by settlers to the Blaine Lake area in the early 1900's and was likely used to house their wagon which was their mode of transport, hauling wheat, groceries or people. Interesting how we still see the need to have such a building to house our mode(s) of transportation.

  • Siblings at dawn

    Siblings at dawn

Siblings are all different as these two granaries, are similar but slightly different. Some PS work with a B&W foreground but the sky left as it was.

    Christmas Cactus

Up close and personal with a Christmas cactus which has been blooming like crazy lately.

  • Sunrise on the Shop

    Sunrise on the Shop

Golden shafts of light play on this old log workshop in the early morning hour.

  • Grouse

    Grouse

this ruffed Grouse was very cooperative and posed for the shot.

  • Morning Sky

    Morning Sky

Saskatchewan has some of the best sunrises/sunsets. On this morning it was no exception, the colours play off of the morning clouds in their usual palette of orange, red and pink.

  • The Barn

    The Barn

Farms used to dot the prairies. Every section (4 quarters) had a family and farm on it....All had a barn for the animals, some of which were fancy and others strictly utilitarian. Most were built as this one....hip roof, hayloft (for storing hay for bales and a big door for the cows and horses to enter. Some had a windmill over a well to supply water for the animals. Sadly most are sitting empty now as the small farm has been replaced by large corporations who are not interested in mixed farming practices.
